Taking down the structure of the tree in preparation for milling

Tree felling involves taking down the structure of the tree in preparation for cross-cutting and milling. Clients may opt to remove one or two trees or request clearance of an area of trees within their property. Amber Tree Care uses a process known as sectional felling or dismantling to take down trees. Rather than cutting at the base of the trunk, sectional felling involves using ropework to climb to the top of the tree and then strategically remove portions of the tree including branches and sections of the trunk. Pieces are then lowered to the ground rather than being allowed to fall. Sectional felling & dismantling limits the need for heavy equipment that can damage the ground, and helps to preserve surrounding foliage.

Fallen or Damaged Tree Removal

Quick removal of fallen or severely damaged trees

Trees that have fallen as a result of damage, age, extreme weather or disease represent a safety hazard and where these have fallen or partially fallen onto a road or footway can be severely disruptive. Amber Tree Care will respond quickly to enquiries relating to storm-damaged/windblown trees and work to quickly section and remove fallen trees. The team will work quickly to section and remove fallen trees, cross cutting them into manageable logs. In addition, the team uses agricultural machinery to safely transport large sections of timber where necessary.

Tree Reduction

Reducing the overall size of mature trees

Tree reduction, also known as tree pruning or all over trimming is a technique used to reduce the overall size of mature trees. This is recommended when a tree outgrows the space it’s in, or when dead, diseased or damaged branches have been identified.

Correct tree reduction can help promote good tree growth, improve safety and clearance, improve the aesthetic appearance of trees and allow more light to penetrate the canopy.

Crown Lifting & Thinning

Lifting a tree’s canopy by removing the lowest branches

By removing the lowest branches we increase the height of the canopy, improving access and increasing the amount of light and air available under the tree. Crown lifting may be considered where lower branches are causing clearance issues for infrastructure, buildings and vehicles.

Crown thinning removes material from inside the tree’s canopy but does not reduce the overall canopy size or shape of the tree. The aim of crown thinning is usually to improve the amount of light that can penetrate the canopy, reduce weight stress and the potential for wind damage.

Tree Pollarding

Controlling the height of trees

Tree pollarding is a method of pruning a tree back, removing the crown entirely including all shoots and branches. This is often done to control the height of trees, improve light and ensure that trees do not interfere with infrastructure such as street lights and overhead cabling. Pollarding is not suitable for all tree species.
